1. Declare Your Intentions
Your mind is most receptive to suggestion in the morning, so wake with an upbeat mantra. Take a few deep breaths and repeat a phrase that speaks to you, such as “Today, I choose happiness,” or “I am fearless.” Speaking this idea aloud gives you a spiritual framework to take on any challenges.
2. Give Thanks
Take a moment to write at least one specific thing you are thankful for in a journal (our ALEX AND ANI Journals are perfect!) each morning. Recognizing what you’re grateful for clarifies what you want more of in life and helps focus your energy. (And periodically reading through past entries reminds you of your many blessings.)
3. Shake Off the Z’s
Morning exercise revs up blood circulation (which slows overnight) and boosts your metabolism — making your brain sharper, increasing your energy level, and helping your body burn more calories at rest, all day long! In addition to the benefits for body and mind, a morning workout leaves you more time to spend with friends and family.
4. Hydrate Early
Fend off fatigue with a tall, cool glass of water. Not only does it kick-start the day’s water intake, it aids in digestion, too. (Feel free to follow it with your ritual cup o’ joe!) And it’s a smart choice in other ways, too: Some studies show that drinking ice-cold water helps improve your brain’s performance. Genius!
5. Tackle a Small Challenge
Achieve a confidence-building sense of accomplishment early in the day by crossing off a small but neglected item on your to-do list. Focus yourself on the task before you begin responding to emails or taking calls, so that it doesn’t get pushed aside (again!).
